Omaha's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Parade was at 3 p.m. on June 30, 1996. The year's theme was "A New Era of Pride." This was the first year the parade marched through the old market. The parade route began at 8th and Farnam Street, proceeded west on Farnam to 14th Street, south to Howard Street, east on Howard, finally heading north back to the start. 

Following the parade, a rally and festival took place at 4 p.m. Heartland of America Park (800 Douglas Street), the first year the rally was held at this location. Speakers included Donna Red Wing, national spokespoerson for GLAAD, as well as John McGivern and Robin Greenspan, nationally known gay and lesbian comedians.
